What is the Timer Role in Toastmasters?
The Timer is one of the most important meeting roles in Toastmasters. The Timer tracks how long each speaker talks and signals them using colored lights — green, yellow, and red — so they stay within their allotted time. Keeping speeches on time ensures the meeting runs smoothly and every speaker gets a fair chance to practice.
Standard Toastmasters Timing Rules
Each speech type has its own time range. The timer shows green when the minimum time is reached, yellow at the midpoint, and red at the maximum. Speakers who finish before green or after red may be disqualified from awards.
